Four Masters Training Sequences - Sept 2025

25 Sep 2025Steve Schwarz

Here are four sequences from a recent Masters handling workshop I had Agility at the Farm.

I based the layout (and probably some of the first sequence) on a course I saw somewhere but now I can’t find the map/original designer 🤬.

Sequences

It is important that you update obstacle locations/rotations for each sequence.

As I do at all my workshops, the emphasis is on good execution rather than completing a sequence. Also being able to use all crosses where applicable and handling from various sides of a line where appropriate.

Handling thoughts:

  • 1-2 (except for small dogs) I think turning left at 1 AND 2 gave nicer/faster lines for most teams. Yes this is an ugly opening - but good skills to work.
  • 4-5 layer jump 2? Going in worked well too.
  • Blind 5-6.
  • At 7 can you send to back side of jump instead of tunnel? Students could!
  • Dog on left 8-11.
  • Many teams could layer weaves and send to 12-13-14 without having to go to the other side of the weaves.
  • Layer the tunnel 16-18?

Handling thoughts:

  • Push to back to blind 2-3 to put dog on right for push to back at 4.
  • At 4 front or blind cross over the jump. Timing the blind can be challenging. The front is sufficient because you don’t really need to get anywhere afterwards.
  • Ideally send to 5 and then weaves because you are looking to cross (front or blind) at the end of the weaves.
  • Really connect with the dog after the weaves to avoid the off course tunnel.
  • Jump 7s could be handled as Backside slice or wrap.
  • Then it’s threadle slice at 9 and push to backside slice at 10.
  • Work 10 to tunnel or 10 to jump (11B). I’d angle the jump to be safer for the dog’s approach.
  • Then depending on your speed choose the cross at 12/13.

Handling thoughts:

  • Blind cross 3-4.
  • Layer jump 13 on the way to the weaves or cross on the approach to the weaves.
  • Jump wrap to blind on 9 to put dog on left.
  • Push to back to blind on 10 to put dog on left again or just push to back and pick up on right.
  • Shoulder pull/Post turn 11 if dog on left. Otherwise Rear cross wrap.
  • Drive to tunnel.

Handling thoughts:

  • Dog on left push to back at 2.
  • Threadle slice to wrap at 3.
  • Can you layer 1 while handling 4 to 5?
  • Blind cross 5-6 to put dog on left.
  • Handler’s choice at 8: either backside of jump or tunnel.
  • Front or blind cross 10-11.
  • Front or blind cross end of weaves to push to backside at 12.

The same general equipment setup was also used in my Short Skills Training Sequences - September 2025.

I hope you give these a try!
