AKC NAC Challengers Round - Mar 2025
16 Mar 2025
I was just watching the AKC NAC Challengers round on AKC.tv and was kind of surprised by how few clean runs there were. The main issues seemed to be dropped bars at 5 and 8, refusals/wrong side of 10, and lot of all possible contact faults.
For 5 almost all dropped bars were with handlers front crossing on the landing side. I wonder how it would have run if the course went from 4-6 (leaving out 5), it would have been more AKC-ish with the pin wheel and the challenge of avoiding two off courses (but I don’t know AKC judging guidelines to know if it would be OK and there already was the 12-14 pin wheel…).
I’m not a huge fan of the back in forth of a tunnel, but the location of 10 after the push to the back at 8 made it a handling challenge; as it put handlers behind. I liked tunnel on the handler’s left for 9 and on their right for 11. I didn’t see anyone blind cross 8-9 after the back side; there were mostly front crosses.
